That first step into your raw and newly built home is always the most exciting moment despite being greeted with the white walls, dusty floors and windows that are wrapped up – a house that does not give any signs of readiness for anyone to live in. Yet you are filled with anticipation because you know this house is exactly like a blank canvas for you to unleash your imagination and make it a home uniquely yours.

Selecting the right colors for your walls is the first and most essential step because that sets the color tone for your house and usually, it is not as convenient to change as compared to movable furniture such as sofa, beds and more. (Trust me, repainting the entire home is crazily tiring). To simplify the decision process for you, we have come up with color palettes for the four different themes – Scandinavian, Modern, Industrial and Eclectic.

Scandinavian
Well known for its functionality and simplicity with a hint of woody feel, goes hand in hand with your neutral and pale color palette. Colors that are gentle and pleasing to your eyes generally are suitable for this theme as they bring out the essence of wood furniture in your house

Modern
Less is more. Go beyond your traditional concepts of how your furniture look like by decorating your house with furniture that have abstract designs and lines. Keep it simple with monochromatic palette or something along the spectrum to provide the full exposure for these classic smooth lines.

Industrial
Long gone the days when we try to conceal everything and only leave the “complete” look in our house. The casual and unpretentious industrial theme has made its grand arrival in interior design trends. Complement the use of raw and natural materials with the rustic, earthy tones.

Eclectic
There is no doubt that this would be the most interesting theme that you can play around with however to put all the colors nicely blended in a space probably requires the most aesthetic. Here are two ways you can do it:

  1. Invest in all the different pieces of artwork and unique furniture. Choose the neutral palette or white paint that can match harmoniously with these colorful furniture and decorations.
  2. Choose simpler furniture but bright up your house with funky colors which honestly reduce your chances of breaking a bank (thanks, Ikea!)

Regardless of which theme and color palette you have decided to go with, let’s not forget the statement piece that your house might be lacking – Modern, Scandinavian, Industrial, Eclectic.
